Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, today made the following remarks regarding the EPA's proposed National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) for lead:

Senator Boxer said: "Once again, the Bush Administration has failed to heed its scientists. Today the EPA proposed a standard for lead that would leave children in harm's way. Lead is a dangerous toxin that diminishes a child's intelligence, and causes other developmental harm. EPA has a responsibility under the law to establish a safe standard for lead, based on science, and must revise this proposal to protect our children and families."
