Washington, D.C. -- Senator James Inhofe (R-OK), Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, and Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Ranking Member, released the statement below after the President signed into law the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act.  The bill, which passed both the Senate and House of Representatives yesterday with overwhelming bipartisan support, provides approximately $300 billion for the nation's surface transportation programs over five years.

"This is an historic victory for the American people,” the Senators said.  “It is our constitutional responsibility to fund our nation’s vast transportation and infrastructure network.  This bill is what our country needs, and we are pleased to see this last step of the bill being signed into law. With more than 61,000 structurally deficient bridges and 50 percent of our nation’s roads in less than good condition, this law is crucial not only for our safety, but also for jobs and for our economic standing in the world."
