WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, released the following statement on the U.S. Department of Transportation’s new fuel economy standards for light-duty cars and trucks sold in Model Years 2024 through 2026:

“Today’s announcement is another decisive step to helping Americans save money at the pump. The simple truth is that today’s pickup trucks go thirty percent farther on a gallon of gasoline than those from 2009. That’s important because it’s helping shield families financially from the fallout of Putin’s war. We know that by improving the fuel efficiency of our cars and trucks, we can protect our pocketbooks and our planet. I applaud the Biden Administration raising the bar for our nation’s fuel standards and advancing policies that both reduce emissions and strengthen our economy.”
