Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, today made the following remarks regarding the Committee's Staff Director and Chief Counsel, Bettina Poirier. Ms. Poirier was honored Monday night by the Children's Environmental Health Network (CEHN) for her work to protect children from toxic pollution and other environmental hazards.

Senator Boxer said: "I am very proud that my Staff Director and Chief Counsel on the Environment and Public Works Committee has been recognized for her many years of tireless work and dedication to protecting the health and safety of America's children."

Bettina Poirier has served as Chairman Boxer's Staff Director and Chief Counsel for the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee since Senator Boxer became Chairman in the 110th Congress. Prior to becoming Staff Director, Ms. Poirier was Senior Counsel to Senator Boxer for environmental and agricultural issues.

The Children's Environmental Health Network (CEHN) is a national non-profit organization that has been working for over 16 years to promote safe and healthy environments for all children. Previous CEHN honorees include former Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Carol Browner.
