WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW), encouraged President Trump to nominate Andrew Wheeler to serve as the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Wheeler currently serves as the acting administrator for the agency. Barrasso made the following remarks at a committee hearing titled, “Examining EPA’s Agenda: Protecting the Environment and Allowing America’s Economy to Grow.” Wheeler testified at the hearing.

Senator Barrasso’s remarks:

“Before we begin today’s hearing, I want to thank Acting EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler for making it a priority to come testify before the committee today.

“I have been very impressed with how he has started his tenure as the head of the agency.

“As acting administrator, Mr. Wheeler has emphasized transparency, while implementing policies that protect the environment and allow America’s economy to grow.

“I would encourage President Trump to nominate Andrew Wheeler to be administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.

“Mr. Wheeler is very well qualified for that position.

“He has spent over 25 years working in environmental policy.

“In that time, he has served as a career employee at the agency, as a staffer here on Capitol Hill, as a consultant in the private sector, and now in a leadership role of the EPA.

“I believe Andrew Wheeler would make an excellent Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.”
