Senator Boxer Applauds
“Step It Up” Global Warming Rallies

Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-Calif), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, today thanked and applauded the thousands of Americans from all walks of life who gathered in more than 1300 “Step It Up” grassroots events nationwide to call for strong Congressional action to deal with the threat of global warming.

Senator Boxer said, “It is exciting to see the support across the nation for swift, bold action to deal with the threat of global warming.  I am a lead sponsor of the Sanders-Boxer bill because it calls for dramatic reductions in global warming pollution – 80 percent by 2050 – that are based on what the scientists tell us we need to do.  Every day, more and more americans are waking up to the fact that global warming is real, and that by acting now, we can inspire new technologies and create jobs as we save the planet.  Future generations will look back on us and ask: ‘Did we rise to the challenge while there was still time to make a difference?’  Today, Americans from coast to coast are standing up to demand that we meet that challenge, and their voices will be heard loud and clear in Washington .
