Washington, D.C. - After the House of Representatives voted down legislation that would have drastically cut transportation funding, Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, issued the following statement:

Senator Boxer said: "I am very encouraged today that the House of Representatives soundly defeated an irresponsible proposal to cut transportation spending by many billions of dollars from current funding levels. This bipartisan vote sends a strong signal to the transportation conference committee that we should reach agreement swiftly on a plan that will ensure millions of jobs provided by thousands of job creators, as we build a transportation system worthy of the greatest economy in the world."
