Washington, D.C. -- Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, issued the following statement after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed new standards to cut dangerous methane pollution from the oil and gas sector. It is part of the Obama Administration’s Climate Action Plan to cut methane emissions from the oil and gas industry by 40-45 percent by 2025 from 2012 levels.
Senator Boxer said: "These new standards announced by EPA are a critical step forward in requiring the oil and gas industry to reduce methane leaks, which is a potent source of climate pollution. By cutting industrial methane pollution, we can help protect our children and future generations from the worst impacts of climate change."
