WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW), today led a bipartisan majority in the Senate to confirm Jeffrey Prieto as General Counsel of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) by a vote of 54-44. Prior to the vote, Carper spoke on the Senate floor in support of Prieto’s nomination.

“Having come to know Mr. Prieto following his nomination by President Biden, I believe that he will be an outstanding EPA General Counsel,” said  Carper. “He has the intellect, the temperament, and experience to serve in this important role…he is the right choice now.”

Earlier this year, Prieto came before the EPW Committee to field questions from Senators. The Committee later voted to favorably report his nomination by a bipartisan vote of 12-8.
