Inhofe Welcomes Announcement of Ostendorff Nomination
To Nuclear Regulatory Commission
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, today welcomed President Obama's intent to nominate William Ostendorff to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Two Democratic nominees, George Apostolakis and William Magwood, are pending before the Committee.
"Mr. Ostendorff is a high caliber nominee who has demonstrated proven leadership in service to our country, both in military and civilian capacities," Senator Inhofe said. "The NRC will clearly benefit from Mr. Ostendorff's extensive background in nuclear energy and national security, which he acquired during his service in the Navy, as well as his tenure as a staff member of the House Armed Services Committee, and as a senior official at the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration.
"The country is best served by a full Commission acting as a collegial body. I look forward to meeting Mr. Ostendorff and will support Chairman Boxer's efforts to ensure his timely confirmation and the confirmations of Dr. Apostolakis and Mr. Magwood."
