Statement of Senator Jim Jeffords, I-Vt.
On Bush Administration Draft New Source Review Proposal
August 31, 2005 "This would be by far the worst proposed rollback of the Clean Air Act yet by the Bush Administration. Apparently, the Administration will not rest until essential parts of the Clean Air Act are completely dismantled through deregulation and an utter lack of enforcement. Since the White House cannot find consensus even in a Republican-controlled Congress for changing the Act to authorize such extreme positions, they have resorted to making their own laws and usurping even more of the Legislative Branch's authority. The courts will help the Bush Administration come to terms with the fact that New Source Review is the law of the land and that it must be enforced, not bypassed, and ignored or undermined. We will fight this misguided giveaway to the polluters with every resource we have."
