July 29, 2005 INHOFE REFLECTS ON “HISTORIC DAY” FOR THE SENATE AND THE COUNTRY Highway Bill and Energy Bill Pass With Overwhelming Support WASHINGTON, DC – Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, today issued the following statement upon the Senate’s passage of the conference reports for H.R. 3, the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, and Efficient Transportation Equity Act – A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), and H.R. 6, the Energy Policy Act of 2005. The Senate approved SAFETEA-LU 91-4 this evening, and the Energy Bill was approved earlier 74-26. Both bills will soon be presented to the President for his signature. “This has been an historic day not only for the Senate, but for the country. We have delivered a comprehensive highway bill that will create jobs, improve safety and enhance our transportation infrastructure, and have we have also taken an important step in improving our energy reliability and security.
