WASHINGTON, DC – Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Chairman of the Environment & Public Works Committee thanked outgoing Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator and former Governor of Utah, Mike Leavitt, and congratulated him on the appointment to be Health and Human Services Secretary (HHS):

“Mike Leavitt brought common sense western values, strong management skills, and solid leadership to the EPA. I thank my friend for coming to Oklahoma at my request for his first official trip as Administrator to learn about the Tar Creek site and for the attention he has paid to this problem affecting our great state. I have been impressed with his tireless work to benefit out nation’s environment and particularly for his willingness to work with me to reform EPA’s discretionary grants program to bring some oversight and accountability to grant recipients. I will miss Mike as Administrator but can see why the President would want someone of his caliber to fill the large shoes left behind by former Governor Tommy Thompson at HHS. I commend Mike for his work at EPA and wish him the best in this new challenge,” Senator Inhofe said.
