Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, today made the following remarks regarding the Committee's approval of The Restore the Value of Every American in Environmental Decisions Act.

Senator Boxer said: "The EPA's decision to reduce the worth of a human being when they consider the benefits of new environmental regulations was outrageous, and this bill will ensure that it never happens again."

The press recently reported that EPA slashed by about $1 million dollars the dollar value it assigns to protecting a person's life when the agency makes decisions about how protective its health standards against air and other pollution should be. The Restore the Value of Every American in Environmental Decisions Act directs EPA to restore the value the agency places on protecting human beings, and to regularly update that value based on the best available data, through an open public process.
