Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, today made the following remarks regarding the lawsuit filed today by the State of California charging the Bush Administration's Environmental Protection Agency with unreasonable delay in granting the state's request for a waiver to control global warming pollution from cars:

Senator Boxer said: "It saddens me that California has to take the federal government to court to protect our citizens from global warming, but I am with my state every step of the way. It is past time for the Bush Administration to get out of the way so California can continue its efforts to combat global warming."
