Statement of Senators Jim Jeffords (I - Vt) and Barbara Boxer (D- CA)
on GAO Gasoline Markets Report “Today, we are releasing a GAO report that looked into whether and how the nation’s air quality might be improved by reducing the number of gasoline blends in use around the country. GAO found that before Congress takes any action to reduce gasoline blends, EPA needs to more comprehensively study emissions from modern vehicles and fuels and estimate the air quality benefits of using them. GAO also recommended that EPA work with stakeholders, including the states and the Department of Energy, to collect and analyze information in order to balance the environmental benefits with the impact of the numerous blends on the supply infrastructure and prices.” The report can be found online at: www.gao.gov/cgi-bin/getrpt?GAO-05-421
