WASHINGTON, D.C.
– U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, today joined Fox News’ America Reports to discuss the Republican infrastructure framework she and her colleagues unveiled yesterday.

HIGHLIGHTS:

WHAT IS INFRASTRUCTURE? “Defining infrastructure was critically important in terms of putting forth a really viable offer. The physical infrastructure—what I keep calling is the core infrastructure of country. These are the issues that we’ve worked together [on] time and time across the aisle to provide for.”

FEEDBACK FROM WHITE HOUSE: “I think it’s a great offer to the president—a very sincere one. I’ve gotten good feedback from the White House and others. Certainly not everybody is on board, but you know this is what you do. You negotiate. You work to see where your areas of emphasis are. But I think good, physical infrastructure is what the American people want us to do and want us to work together, and I think we can get there.”

THE IMPORTANCE OF CRAFTING A GOP PROPOSAL: “This is where we start. The president asked us for a plan. I think it’s incumbent upon us to get our Republican ideas out in front of the American people and in front of the president and inside our committees where we really should be doing all this work. If we didn’t have a plan, I think we would be heavily criticized—and rightly so—of not wanting to be a part of the conversation. This is a process, and I think we’ve got a good start to that process.”

ON DEMOCRAT CRITICISM: “For those who have dissed the plan, I think it’s too often in Washington that people don’t even see what you’re talking about and they just naturally assume it’s nothing they would like. I think that’s where a lot of that reaction has come from. That’s not bothering me.”
