"It is imperative that we find the best means forward to ensure the survival of and to prevent illegal poaching of some of our most iconic species in Africa. It is our obligation to better understand what tools we currently have available to protect these species and how recent decisions by the USFWS will improve the situation," said Vitter.
Vitter's letter asks Director Ashe to respond to a series of questions about conservation tools that are available to help African elephants, including questions related to the FWS's knowledge of international poaching efforts.
