U.S. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) today made the following statement in response to Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman's approval of re-routing the proposed Keystone XL Pipeline.

"Many Americans are still hurting for jobs, and one partial solution is staring us all in the face - the Keystone XL pipeline," said Vitter. "I applaud Governor Heineman's support of the Keystone re-route, which clearly eliminates any excuse from the Obama Administration. We are blessed with a strong trading partner and neighbor in Canada, and the administration should realize that the time for politics is over."

Vitter has consistently supported the completion of the Keystone XL, urging the Obama Administration to unleash North America's domestic energy potential and create thousands of American jobs. In the last Congress, Vitter introduced legislation that would force the approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline if the President opened the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

Sens. Vitter, the new Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Ranking Member of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, recently wrote a joint op-ed "Obama's mulligan on Keystone XL." Click here to read the op-ed.
