WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW), delivered the following remarks at a committee business meeting. During the meeting, the committee advanced the nomination of Andrew Wheeler, of Virginia, to be deputy administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Senator Barrasso’s remarks:

“We are here to vote on the nomination of Andrew Wheeler to be deputy administrator of the EPA.

“He has worked in the environmental field for over 25 years.

“He spent 12 of those years serving as this committee’s Clean Air Subcommittee staff director and Republican staff director and general counsel.

“He has proven himself to be a well-qualified, experienced, and dedicated public servant.

“We all know that Mr. Wheeler will make an invaluable contribution to the protection of America’s public health and safety as deputy administrator of the EPA.

“I urge my colleagues to vote yes on Mr. Wheeler’s nomination.”

Wheeler was nominated for the same position in 2017. His nomination advanced the committee on Nov. 29. 2017.
