WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, today participated in a business meeting of the committee. The committee voted unanimously to pass the bipartisan Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Act, legislation that authorizes more than $35 billion for water resource development projects across the country with a focus on upgrading aging infrastructure, addressing the threat of climate change, investing in new technologies, and providing assistance to marginalized communities.
In the meeting, Ranking Member Capito also voted against the nominations of Brenda Mallory to be chair of the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) and Janet McCabe to be deputy administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Both nominees advanced with votes of 11-9.
The committee also advanced legislation Ranking Member Capito co-sponsored that would name the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) headquarters after William T. Coleman, Jr., the fourth United States Secretary of Transportation and first African American to serve in the position.
