WASHINGTON, DC – Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Chairman of the Environment & Public Works Committee, said today that it is time to convene a House/Senate conference committee on the Safe Accountable, Flexible, and Efficient Transportation Equity Act (SAFETEA) – also known as the highway bill.

“I am optimistic that we can get this highway bill to conference and pass a six-year bill this year.” Senator Inhofe said. “We have worked long and hard in the Senate in a truly bipartisan fashion to create a six-year transportation bill that is good for our economy, will create millions of job opportunities, fight traffic congestion, and improve the safety of our nation’s roads and bridges. The time is now to appoint conferees so that we can work out difference between the House and the Senate and pass a final bill.”
