U.S. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), top Republican on the Environment and Public Works Committee, sent a letter to Anthony Foxx, Secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOT), following up on a recent report by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), which confirmed Vitter’s concerns of DOT’s administration of the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Discretionary Grant program. “The decision-making process and management of the TIGER program needs more transparency and obvious reforms,” said Vitter. “It is of the utmost importance and urgency that we bring trust back into how we invest in this nation’s infrastructure.”
In the letter, Vitter urges Secretary Foxx to increase transparency in the decision-making process for the TIGER program, as well as to investigate previous TIGER rounds in order to determine what further action is necessary to reform the program. Vitter also requests that DOT provide documentation of the TIGER VI selection process for each selected project at the time of the grant awards and the Congressional district of each awarded project.
