WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, released the following statement applauding the bipartisan confirmations last night of Annie Caputo and Bradley Crowell to be members of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC):
“Reliable, affordable nuclear energy is necessary to power our homes and businesses, and is an energy source that I strongly support. Nuclear energy provides about half of America’s emissions-free energy and nearly 20% of our power,” Ranking Member Capito said. “Ms. Caputo and Mr. Crowell join the NRC at a critical time. The commission must continue to ensure the safe operations of today’s nuclear power plants and also enable the timely development and deployment of new advanced nuclear technologies. The NRC is central to the future of nuclear energy in West Virginia, across the country, and around the world. I congratulate Ms. Caputo and Mr. Crowell on their confirmations and look forward to their contributions to the future of nuclear energy as members of the commission.”
In July, the EPW Committee voted unanimously to advance both nominations. Click here to watch Ranking Member Capito’s opening statement during their initial nominations hearing.
