Washington, D.C. - Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, released the statement below after the U.S. Supreme Court issued a 6-2 decision upholding the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Cross State Air Pollution Rule.

Senator Boxer said: "The Cross State Air Pollution Rule is a critical public health safeguard which reduces deadly air pollution that crosses state lines and threatens the health of the American people. Today's Supreme Court's decision will enable EPA to protect public health by reducing air pollution from some of the dirtiest sources. By making our air healthier to breathe, EPA's rule will save lives and prevent up to 34,000 premature deaths a year."
