Washington, D.C. -- Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, issued the statement below after the Senate passed S.J. Res. 22, a Congressional Review Act resolution introduced by Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA), which would block the Obama administration’s Clean Water Rule. Today’s vote (53 to 44) came only one day after Senate Democrats defeated S. 1140, a bill introduced by Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), which would have undermined the Clean Water Act.
Senator Boxer said: “Senate Republicans continue to attack our landmark environmental laws, and this resolution would weaken the Clean Water Act – putting our children and families at risk because it takes away protections for drinking water for one in three Americans or 117 million people. I support the President’s plan to veto this harmful legislation.”
