SEN. BOXER’S STATEMENT ON
CABRILLO PORT LNG PROJECT DECISION

Washington, D.C.—U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, issued the following comments following today’s decision by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on the Cabrillo Port LNG project. The application was rejected due to the lack of adequate air pollution controls and weak environmental protections. Senator Boxer’s Committee launched an active investigation in March 2007 into allegations of political intervention and questionable treatment of the project by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Senator Boxer said: “I have long expressed serious concerns about the Cabrillo Port LNG project. The excellent decisions by the Lands Commission, the Coastal Commission, and today by the Governor to reject the Cabrillo Port LNG project were correct, because the proposal failed to protect the air we breathe and the coastal and marine environments. No project should proceed with these fatal flaws.”
