Washington, D.C. -- Today, the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee unanimously approved legislation co-sponsored by Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), EPW Ranking Member, to help protect and restore Lake Tahoe. The Lake Tahoe Restoration Act of 2015 (S. 1724) was introduced by Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) with Senator Boxer, Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Senator Harry Reid (D-NV). The legislation seeks to reduce the risk of wildfires, to safeguard native species, and to protect Lake Tahoe from storm water runoff and other sources of pollution.

Senate Boxer said: “I am pleased that the EPW Committee joined together to pass this bipartisan bill. It is critical we continue to protect Lake Tahoe, which is one of the most treasured places in my home state of California and is essential for tourism in both California and Nevada. I will continue to work with colleagues on both sides of the aisle as we move forward with this legislation on the Senate floor.”
