Bill Text | One-Pager | Section-by-Section Summary

WASHINGTON, D.C.  Today, U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, issued the following statement:

“The White House and my Senate colleagues have come to an agreement on legislative text that will hopefully make a good start in addressing the infrastructure needs of the American people. But let’s be clear—while this bill is a step forward in building on the bipartisan work of the EPW, Commerce, and Energy and Natural Resources committees, on its own it does not go far enough to meaningfully advance environmental justice and tackle the climate change crisis. I fought tirelessly for improvements in the bipartisan package to get us to this point, and not all of what I sought was realized. While there was progress on some fronts, sadly, important changes were not made on others.

“That’s why I will continue to fight for more to be done in our upcoming reconciliation bill and work to get assurances from the White House and Senate leadership to ensure that it includes the policy and the resources we need to take bold, transformative action to invest in climate change and environmental justice. There is no time to waste on this existential threat.”
