"Once again the Bush Administration is doing through federal regulations what it cannot pass through Congress. Put simply, this rule means that power plants can pollute more, for longer than the law allows. Mercury is a poison, and there is no good reason why we should alllow more of it into our environment. Instead of issuing more warnings about the dangers of mercury in our tuna, the Bush Administration should be working to eliminate it completely from our environment. For every year that the Administration delays the current schedule for power plant reductions of mercury, hundreds, if not thousands more lakes will be contaminated with poisonous mercury."
