WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW), today released the following statement on Congressman Peter DeFazio’s introduction of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee’s surface transportation bill, the INVEST Act. This comes after EPW unanimous passage of the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Act (STRA), bipartisan legislation that would make historic investments in our nation’s roads, highways, and bridges:

“I’m pleased to see my House counterpart, Chairman DeFazio, put forward legislation that largely reflects our shared vision for the future of transportation infrastructure in our country. A little more than a week ago, we reported our bipartisan surface transportation bill out of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee with unanimous support. Both of our bills share the common principle of modernizing our transportation infrastructure in a way that creates good-paying jobs, addresses the climate crisis, and prioritizes safety and connectivity. Now, it’s time for the other committees of jurisdiction in the Senate to follow our lead. The American people are depending on us to get legislation across the finish line and make a down payment on President Biden’s American Jobs Plan.”
