Washington, D.C. - Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, issued the following statement after the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee approved H.R. 3080, the Water Resources Reform and Development Act of 2013.

Senator Boxer said: "I am so pleased that Chairman Shuster and Ranking Member Rahall have reported a water resources bill out of the House Transportation Committee. For the economy's sake, we must pay attention to our ports, to flood control, and to ecological restoration. I look forward to House passage of the legislation so that we can go to conference."

On May 15, the Senate passed S. 601, the Water Resources Development Act of 2013, with strong bipartisan support (83 to 14). S. 601 provides critical flood protection for communities across the country, maintains navigation routes and the flow of commerce, restores vital ecosystems, and sustains up to 500,000 new jobs.
