(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), top Republican on the Environment and Public Works Committee, today sent a letter to Gina McCarthy, Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Jo-Ellen Darcy, Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works), regarding their rhetoric to describe the proposed rule defining the “waters of the United States” under the Clean Water Act (CWA).
“The Administration’s claim that the proposed ‘Waters of the U.S.’ rule is about ‘protecting our natural resources,’ is very deceiving – I’d actually call it bogus. Real world examples clearly demonstrate the economic pain and government bullying that this rule would cause, and there’s no rhetoric from the EPA or the Corps that will change that,” said Vitter. “EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers are attempting a federal takeover of private property rights of American families, farmers, and small businesses and I think I speak for a lot of those groups saying EPA and the Corps need to reconsider and withdraw the rule.”
