Inhofe Praises Amendment Preventing the Withholding of Highway Funds from States Under 111(d)

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, released the following statement upon the passage of amendment #836 offered by Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to prohibit the withholding of highways funds from states that refuse to comply with the administration’s Clean Power Plan:

“It is now on the record that 43 Democrats are left of Environmental Protection Agency Adm. Gina McCarthy, and advocate for withholding states highway dollars for bridges, highways, maintenance, and improvements for not complying with the president’s radical climate agenda.  This amendment brings to light the broad support against implementing $479 billion in harmful regulations on states that would ultimately have a negative impact on our nation’s economy.  I thank Senator McConnell for bringing this important amendment to a vote, and I’m proud to stand with my colleagues against yet another element of the administration’s attempt to force a radical climate agenda on our economy.”

Amendment #836 relates to the regulation by EPA of greenhouse gases (GHG), which may include a prohibition on withholding highway funds from states that refuse to submit SIPs required under the Clean Power Plan of EPA.
