WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, and Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the EPW Committee, today led the Senate to pass the Water Resources Development Act of 2022 (WRDA 2022) by a vote of 93-1.

Carper and Capito introduced the legislation along with Senators Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Chairman of the EPW Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee, and Senator Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Ranking Member of the EPW Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee.

“It’s a good day in the United States Senate when we pass bipartisan legislation that invests in our nation’s water infrastructure,” Senator Carper said. “In addition to supporting the Army Corps of Engineers' civil works program, the Water Resources Development Act of 2022 also better positions the Corps for the future. Enacting WRDA 2022 will keep our economy moving, restore critical ecosystems, and protect communities big and small from the worsening impacts of climate change. I am grateful to our colleagues in the Senate for their support of this critical legislation, and I look forward to working with our counterparts in the House to finalize a bill that we can soon send to President Biden’s desk.”

“The bipartisan Water Resources Development Act our committee crafted and the Senate passed today will enable the Army Corps of Engineers to continue their critical work by advancing important water resources projects. WRDA 2022 will help the Corps protect the lives and livelihoods of millions of Americans and facilitate commerce throughout this country and internationally,” Ranking Member Capito said. “In addition to addressing needs across the United States, this legislation advances important flood control projects for West Virginia, and delivers support for water and wastewater services in the state. I’m proud the Senate recognized the EPW Committee’s quality work by passing this bill, and look forward to the difference it will make in our communities.”
