“If we want to combat the existential threat of climate change and position our economy for the future, we need to ensure that our tax policies support and encourage innovative technologies that make a clean energy revolution possible,” said Senator Tom Carper. “Hydrogen can be used as a zero-emitting fuel across our economy, from our cars to our factories. Today, there are technologies—many of which are made in Delaware—that can help this nation produce cleaner hydrogen than traditional processes. Clean hydrogen has a critical role to play in strengthening our country’s industrial sector and moving us closer to net-zero emissions by 2050. I’m proud to author legislation that will help make clean hydrogen production in the United States a reality.”
The Clean H2 Production Act would create a production tax credit (PTC) and an investment tax credit (ITC) to support the production of hydrogen using methods that are at least 50 percent cleaner than traditional hydrogen production methods. The cleaner the technologies, the greater the credit. Full text of the legislation can be found here.
“America can’t get to net zero by 2050 without clean hydrogen. From marine transport to steel to long duration energy storage, hydrogen is key to decarbonizing heavy industry. We applaud the efforts of pragmatic leaders like Senator Carper to accelerate the adoption of hydrogen and to spur innovation in clean energy technology. Bloom Energy is proud to be at the forefront of a clean energy future through production of hydrogen fuel cells and electrolyzers that produce renewable hydrogen at our Delaware and California manufacturing facilities,” said KR Sridhar, Bloom Energy Founder, Chairman, and CEO.
“On behalf of our more than 20,000 U.S. employees, Air Liquide thanks Chairman Carper for his introduction of the Clean H2 Production Act. This legislation will help catalyze the production and use of hydrogen across all sectors including transportation, industry and energy storage. Leveraging key technologies developed by Air Liquide at our Innovation Campus in Delaware, the Clean H2 Production Act will create jobs and help lower the CO2 emissions across many sectors. Air Liquide is committed to advancing innovation, creating zero emission fuels, and leveraging sustainable technologies to transition to a clean energy economy with hydrogen at its core,” said Mike Graff, Chairman & CEO, American Air Liquide Holdings, Inc. and Executive Vice President & Executive Committee Member, Air Liquide Group.
