WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, released the following statement after meeting today with Janet McCabe, President Joe Biden’s nominee to be Deputy Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

“You would be hard-pressed to find anyone who has the level of environmental experience and expertise that Janet McCabe does. Every time I speak with McCabe, I’m impressed by her thoughtfulness. Today was no different.

“Janet McCabe has exactly what we should expect from someone being considered for the role of Deputy Administrator at EPA—a deep understanding of the inner workings of the agency and a strong track record that aligns with EPA’s mission of protecting human health and the environment. She also has the leadership that this crucial agency so desperately needs after the last four years. I’m confident she will work closely with Administrator-designee Michael Regan to rebuild morale at EPA, restore the use of scientific integrity in decision-making, and closely engage with states to enact meaningful change.

“Next week, the Environment and Public Works Committee will consider Janet McCabe’s nomination. I look forward to the American people getting a chance to hear directly from her and hope my colleagues will approach her nomination with the same humility and respect that I know she will bring to this role.”
