Washington, DC – Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Ranking Member on the Environment and Public Works Committee, issued the following statement after the Supreme Court issued an order to stay the implementation of President Obama’s Clean Power Plan.  The plan, which targets dangerous carbon emissions from the nation’s largest source -- power plants -- would also keep the United States on target for reductions necessary to meet international commitments.

Senator Boxer said: “The Clean Power Plan is critical for the health of our families and our economy.  Although the Clean Power Plan was stayed today, it has not been overturned and will be reviewed on the merits.  Despite this delay brought to us in a narrow 5 to 4 decision, I am confident that the move to clean energy will continue because the American people want it.”
