Inhofe Welcomes Obama Ozone Announcement

"As Ranking Member of the EPW Committee, stopping this job-killing regulation has been one of my top priorities, and I am pleased that today's announcement offers some good news for Oklahoma and nation."

Washington, D.C.-Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works today commented on the announcement that President Obama has asked Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lisa Jackson to withdraw the Agency's proposed toughened ozone standards.

"President Obama has finally pulled the plug on what would have been the most expensive EPA regulation in history," Senator Inhofe said. "As Ranking Member of the EPW Committee, stopping this job-killing ozone standard has been one of my top priorities, and I am pleased that today's announcement offers some good news for Oklahoma and the nation.

"Of course, the President had little choice but to halt this rule, which would have destroyed nearly 7 million jobs and stifled economic growth at a time when our nation is working to recover from a jobless recession.  Yet the ozone standard is just the beginning of the Obama EPA's regulatory 'train wreck' that is set to wreak havoc on our economy.  If the President is truly serious about reducing the regulatory burdens on our country, as he said today, he should immediately apply the brakes to this regulatory train and get on the right track to restoring the balance between environmental progress and economic growth."
