November 5, 2013

Washington, D.C. -- Senators Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, and David Vitter (R-LA), Ranking Member, announced the names of the Senators who will serve on the Senate-House conference committee for the water resources bill:

Senator Barbara Boxer (Chair)
Senator Max Baucus (D-MT)
Senator Thomas Carper (D-DE)
Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD)
Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI)

Senator David Vitter
Senator John Barrasso (R-WY)
Senator James Inhofe (R-OK)

Senator Boxer said: "I am very pleased that we are taking another important step forward to getting a job-creating water resources bill to the President's desk. We must invest in our nation's flood control projects, navigation routes and ports, and ecosystems, and I look forward to working with my House and Senate colleagues on a final conference report with those goals in mind."

Senator Vitter said: "WRDA is one of the single most significant pieces of infrastructure legislation we've voted on this year, and I look forward to working to get a final bill that includes our Senate provisions. We have the opportunity to reform the Corps of Engineers, streamline flood protection projects, and improve our waterways and infrastructure all in one bill. This is a huge benefit for our entire country."

The Senate requested a conference with the House on water resources legislation last week and appointed conferees late yesterday. In May, the Senate passed S. 601, the bipartisan Water Resources and Development Act (WRDA) by a vote of 83 to 14. The House of Representatives passed H.R. 3080, the Water Resources and Reform Development Act (WRRDA) last week with a vote of 417 to 3. Senator Boxer will serve as the chair of the Senate-House conference which will reconcile the two versions of water resources legislation.
