Senator Boxer’s Statement on “Risky Business” Climate Change Report
June 24, 2014

Washington, DC – Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, issued the statement below following the release of the “Risky Business” report stating that climate change poses a significant economic threat to U.S. businesses.  This year-long analysis of economic risks posed by climate change was conducted by a group of former cabinet officers, lawmakers, corporate leaders, and scientists.

Senator Boxer said:  “Today, a bipartisan group of leaders released a report that shows the U.S. economy is already feeling the financial impacts of climate change, and the costs will only worsen as rising sea levels damage coastal property and infrastructure, droughts reduce agricultural production, and extreme heat lowers labor productivity and harms public health.  Unless we take action to reduce carbon pollution, climate change could cost the U.S. billions of dollars over the next two decades, and this report is a call to action for America’s business leaders.”
