Vitter: WRRDA Clears House With Overwhelming Support
Top Senate Republican negotiator says House vote is great momentum for Senate vote this week
May 20, 2014

U.S. Sen. David Vitter, the lead Senate Republican negotiator for the Water Resources Reform & Development Act (WRRDA), said the overwhelming support in the U.S. House of Representatives signals smooth passage in the Senate too. A vote is expected in the Senate later this week.

"The House vote today is a great sign of overwhelming bipartisan support for our bill to provide significant coastal restoration, hurricane and flood protection, reforms to the Corps, accelerated projects, and of course, jobs," Vitter said. "It's easily one of the most important bills we'll pass this year, and we're finally on the home stretch."

Last week, Vitter and the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee released highlights of the bipartisan, bicameral agreement that was reached on the WRRDA conference report. WRRDA provides critical hurricane and flood protection for communities across the country.

Vitter is the top Republican on the U.S. Senate EPW Committee where the legislation originated.
