Boxer Statement on Next Steps for Global Warming Legislation
January 15, 2009
Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, today made the following remarks regarding an announcement from House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman that he has set a goal of passing global warming legislation through the House by Memorial Day:
Senator Boxer said: "I am very pleased that Chairman Waxman has announced that he is going to move forward quickly with a comprehensive global warming bill."
"Chairman Waxman's announcement is especially important because last year the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee passed a strong global warming bill and brought it to the Senate floor, while there was no action taken in the House."
"I will complete a set of principles for my new legislation in the coming weeks. With the addition of Chairman Waxman's announcement and a new proposal from America's business and environmental leaders in the U.S. Climate Action Partnership, the writing is on the wall that legislation to combat global warming is coming soon."
