May 12, 2010
Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, today released the following statement on draft clean energy and climate legislation released by Senators John Kerry (D-MA) and Joseph Lieberman (ID-CT):
Senator Boxer said, "America has a tremendous opportunity to transform our economy and create millions of clean energy jobs while reducing our dangerous dependence on oil. The release of the American Power Act today is an important milestone, and I commend Senators Kerry and Lieberman for their hard work and their commitment to this crucial effort. I believe California will be the hub of the new clean energy economy, and I appreciate the measures in the Kerry Lieberman bill that ensure that states like California can continue to lead the way in addressing carbon pollution. The need for action is urgent, and I look forward to working with all my colleagues to perfect this legislation and move it forward."
