Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, today made the following remarks regarding the announcement that the State of California has filed suit to overturn the Environmental Protection Agency's denial of California's request for a waiver under the Clean Air Act to allow the state to regulate greenhouse gas pollution from motor vehicles:
Senator Boxer said: "I continue to stand with the State of California in challenging the EPA's denial of California's request for a waiver to regulate greenhouse gas pollution from motor vehicles. This unsupportable decision must be overturned, and I will be filing an amicus brief in support of California's lawsuit."
"On January 10 at Los Angeles City Hall, we will hear from Attorney General Brown and other California leaders at a field briefing on this issue. I am continuing to press the EPA to participate in the briefing to explain to the people of California why the Bush Administration is refusing to get out of the way and let California cut global warming pollution."
